Natures Secrets: Update

An update here:

I’m continuing to study folklore, with emphasis on Iceland, England, and Germany, from last summer’s travels. I’ve also been developing an interest in French, Japanese, and Dutch folklore, and hope to be able to explore these lands in person someday soon.

The storybook I’m working on, Nature’s Secrets, will be pairing stories with my photographs, illustrations from the places I’ve visited, and what I’ve learned of the folklore of the regions, surrounding the mysteries of nature.

While going through my photographs, this picture I took of Glastonbury Abbey inspired me to write a short story. I just wonder, when things come together for the storybook and I sort it out, whether this story will belong somewhere in the book. However it works out, I adore this picture and the short story it inspired was exciting to write. And somehow, a penny farthing has popped up in the story!

I felt this image perfectly expressed what it might be like for a person who truly loves someone, but isn’t able to be a part of their life.

Whispers

It was always you I felt in my heart

Who whispered, “You’re safe. You’ve come home.”

I lay my head on your chest, so that I can feel your rythym

And I whisper back, “No matter what it seemed, a love like ours could never truly come undone.”

Storybook Project

Hello there! An update on the series of photo stories I’ve been posting —

I have spent the summer traveling, and exploring like a creature the dark and enchanting forests of England and Germany; while studying folklore along the fairy tale road of the Brothers Grimm, and attending class in the Elf School of Iceland.

I took many photographs along this journey, each one in themselves telling a story of a landscape rich in nature’s secrets, and inspiring the imagination.

My desire is to blur the lines of photography and literature in this story book which I am creating, each illuminating the other; and all brought to life by these travels.

Please stay tuned!

English Faerie Folk

Walking amongst the ancient trees,

faeries in the mi(d)st,

looming unseen . .

The scent of Hawthorn and Elder,

I stumble through the brush,

twigs crackling under my feet with each step,

I inhale deeply, this forest,

it grows inside of me

Can you feel me here amongst these old souls?

She whispers . .

fluttering about the treetops,

the music of her voice dancing in my ears with delight
